Riffat Hassan (USA/Pakistan)
Riffat Hassan (Lahore, Pakistan, 1943) begon haar carriėre aan de universiteit van Punjab in Lahore, Pakistan en is nu als hoogleraar verbonden aan het Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary (sinds 1980) en de vakgroep religieuze studies van de universiteit van Louisville, USA (sinds 1976). Zij is lid van talloze (internationale) organisaties, waaronder het International Committee of Iqbal Scholars (Pakistan), het Council on Peacemaking (Louisville, USA), de Religious Consultation of Population, Reproductive Health and Ethics (een internationale NGO), en de commissie 'Women for implementing the Beijing Platform for Action Group and Network' (universiteit van Louisville). In 1999 richtte zij het International Network for the Rights of Female Victims of Violence in Pakistan op.
Als theoloog en mensenrechtenactivist zet zij zich al 30 jaar in voor de positie van de moslimvrouw. Zij heeft een belangrijke bijdrage geleverd aan het ontwikkelen van een feministische theologie voor de vrouwenbewegingen en voor internationale programma's, waaronder die van het ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken.
